Davina aka Divvy

Age: 37 (getting nearer to that dreaded big one – ha! ha!)

Partner: Kieran who is 34 years old (yes I have a toy boy!!).  Met in work and been together since 1990 – a long time!!!!!  No wedding bells or kids planned – we are 2 of life’s plodders and just like plodding along at our own pace. We still work together and work in the magistrates courts – which sounds exciting to some, but believe me is just like any other boring office job!!!

Lives: A place called Sutton-at-Hone which is just outside Dartford in Kent.  We have been here 4 weeks (moved in 17.03.05) after a long wait for the council to house us in suitable accommodation (as I am a full time wheelchair user now).  The flat we have is beautiful in wonderful surroundings and we are so happy to be living together again.  I had to live at his mum and dads for the first 3 months of the year so that I could get to work.

Pets: One cat called Kracka.  Sadly we lost our beloved cat called Luke in March last year to old age.  It was very sad but he had a good life and lived to a good old age (about 17).

MS: I was DX in 1998 after suffering some strange feelings in my arms and legs.  The locum I saw thought I was having a stroke (probably due to my wide girth!!) and wanted me to see a neurologist a.s.a.p.  The rest is history really.  My main problems with the MS is mobility problems, as mentioned above I now use a wheelchair.  Fatigue is a slight problem but not a major one.  I suffer other annoying little things but even during times of relapse it is mainly my legs and balance that are affected. I am on rebif injections which I have been on since March 2002.  I am getting on alright with them.

Not sure if they are doing anything as I suffered major problems for most of 2004 but the rebif was upped to the higher dose and I seem to have levelled out since. Unfortunately Kieran was diagnosed with ME in 1999 so we both suffer from a relapse/remit type illness.  We both get down at times but not often as we tend to think, oh well let’s get on with it.  No amount of moaning/screaming/crying is going to make it all go away so what’s the point!!!!

Hobbies:  My main hobby is the computer.  I love playing/chatting/working, anything really as long as I’m on here (poor Kieran doesn’t get a look in).  I decided a couple of years ago to do an NVQ in html, so that I could build my own webpage (www.btinternet.com/~mcbiffa).  I was also impressed by Jooly’s Joint and wanted to do something myself. I decided to do it about MS with some fun pages thrown in.  I mostly built it for my own enjoyment but hopefully it is help/fun for others too. I also like listening to music and reading, although don’t do as much reading these days as I tend to fall asleep after a few pages and forget what I’ve read so have to go back over them again!!!!

Life has changed since my diagnosis but not all for the worse.  I have met some wonderful people online who I would never have met otherwise.  It also made me take stock of my life and realise the things that are important to me (Kieran, family, friends) and things that aren’t so important (work, debt etc). I am privileged enough to be attending the Jooly’s Joint 10th birthday party in September, in Birmingham UK.  I really can’t wait as I am getting a chance to meet all those people that I should have met a long time ago (considering I’ve been a member of JJs for 6 years!!!).  The one thing I would say to anyone diagnosed with MS is don’t panic!!!!!!!  Sit back and take it easy for a while and let things sink in.  Be well read on MS but obviously not too much that you are becoming obsessed with it all.  Be honest with people when they ask you things.  That was one big mistake I made.  I never said how I felt or if I needed any help and found people were getting frustrated with me. I have realised that people are not mind readers and if you don’t tell them they don’t know!!!!!!!!!!
